Week 24 The dark side of the web

Yes I have been the target of phishing scams. Mostly this has been in the form of emails from banks asking the user to log in . It is quite obvious when it isn't even a bank where you have an account . I have had emails sent posing as my bank but I have not opened them as when the bank send messages they are on the banks website in your personal account view. Generally I have been fairly lucky in avoiding malware .

Week 23 Mashups revisited

One of the ideas I liked was to combine usage statistics of books with the library floor plan to highlight areas of high usage helping collection development and also library design.

Week 22 Instant communication

I already use chat on Facebook regularly. Tamworth Library has hosted an author talk via Skype ( Nigel Latte) . There were only a few attendees. I think Skype events could work very well in very small communities ( i.e about 300 people)

Week 21 More with Google docs

I have created a form and emailed it out . Went through the 100 google doc tips -went into the templates (for a long time) and downloaded some great goal setting and goal tracking forms. Listened to the audio from Columbia University (it went for an hour) It was a bit chatty and there wasn't alot of info other than how each of the participants have used google docs. I can see lots of ways to use google docs in our library service . Planning could become a collaborative process online with library staff in remote locations participating .

Week 20 Event management

Today I  have set up a dummy meeting on doodle and invited nswpln@gmail.com as well as two colleagues . I have also set up a dummy event on eventbrite . I think we will use eventbrite to organise our regional training days from now on . This will save staff having to collect the rsvps. I really like doodle and eventbrite and can see possible immediate uses . I already use outlook calendar extensively so doubt I will find the need for google calendar at this point in time.

Week 19 Productivity - doing more with rss

I haven't really used RSS as frequently as other web 2.0 tools and I only check it now and then . I only have a few feeds so no need to organise at this stage . I looked at all the suggested tools .  I don't necessarily want to clutter up email or twitter with my feeds at present however now I know  a bit more about the possibilities.
